Plow & Hearth has the perfect chicken house for my little farmlette
I have wanted to raise chickens since we moved out to the country. Unfortunately, they are against the covenants of our neighborhood. That hasn't stopped several of the other neighbors from having chickens, but unfortunately, we have one neighbor who insists that our family obey all the covenants. (Of course, he seems to violate as many as he can!)
That's a different story for a different day. Today, I think I've found the perfect way to have my chickens. I found this wonderful chicken coop with attached run at Plow & Hearth, one of the wonderful affiliates that help sponsor this site. It is low to the ground and can be extended with longer fencing. Those runs are an additional purchase. I think this one would do. What do you think?
I also plan to put a tall trellis in the front of the house between the two windows on the front of the garage. There is a wide bare brick area and I would love to something that will climb the trellis and add something interesting to that bare wall. Of course, the plant will have to love shade and the trellis will have to be fairly tall. I'd love to buy something like the one pictured here. I haven't seen anything tall enough at Lowes, so I may just have to order this one.
I had wanted to try to make some of these row covers, but if the price is right I may just wind up buying them. I love to get my garden in, but the threat of frost is always a problem. My garden is down in a bit of a dip and even when the rest of the yard doesn't get frost, the garden does. They also have dome tents for largish plants that aren't in a row.
